What Glamping Actually Means

Glamping is short for "glamorous camping." In practice, it means sleeping in a properly furnished tent — real bed, real linens, real lighting, sometimes even a small stove or a private wooden deck — rather than a sleeping bag on the ground. You get the outdoor experience of being right in nature, but with the comfort of a hotel room. For the Vjosa, this is the ideal compromise between the romance of camping by a wild river and the practicality of a good night's sleep after a paddling day.

Our Glamping Partners on the Vjosa

We work with two glamping operations on the Vjosa, both within 15 minutes of Permet and the rafting put-ins. The tents are large safari-style canvas tents on wooden platforms, with king-size beds, proper bedding, hot water access (a short walk to a shared bathhouse), and electricity for charging phones and lights. Some tents have private wood-burning stoves for chilly evenings.

The locations are quiet, with views of the Vjosa from your tent. You wake up to the sound of the river. You eat breakfast on a wooden deck looking at the mountains. Then you walk fifteen minutes to where we launch the rafts for the day.

The Glamping + Rafting Combination

The simplest package is two or three nights of glamping with a Vjosa rafting day on each full day. We organize transfers, meals (or restaurant reservations in Permet), and any other activities you want — hot springs, hiking, traditional village visits. Group prices and full packages are at our packages page.

For couples, glamping is genuinely romantic in a way that a hotel isn't — the fire, the stars, the river. For families with older kids (10+), it is an adventure they will not forget. For groups of friends or small parties, several adjacent tents make it a relaxed shared experience.

What to Bring

Glamping is comfortable, but bring layers — Vjosa valley nights can be cool even in summer. A warm jumper, long trousers, and comfortable shoes for evening walks are useful. You do not need camping equipment, towels, or bedding — all provided. Bring whatever you normally take on a hotel weekend, plus your rafting gear (swimwear, water shoes). See our what to wear guide for the rafting side.

When to Come

Glamping season on the Vjosa runs from May through September. May has wildflowers but cool nights. June and July are warm and reliable. August can be hot in the afternoons but evenings are perfect. September is the quietest and arguably the most beautiful. See our seasonal guide for details.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is glamping?

Glamping is glamorous camping — sleeping outdoors in comfortable, furnished tents that feel more like a hotel room than a sleeping bag on the ground. Real beds, proper bedding, and lighting, but with the open-air experience of being in nature.

Where are the glamping sites on the Vjosa?

Our preferred glamping partners operate on the banks of the Vjosa near Permet, in a quiet valley about 15 minutes from the rafting put-in. The tents are set up on wooden platforms with views of the river and the surrounding mountains.

Can I combine glamping with rafting?

Yes. We arrange combined packages where you stay in a riverside glamping tent and raft different sections of the Vjosa each day. Typical packages range from two to five nights with daily rafting included.
